The forest is an agglomeration of state and private forests that are combined into a large nature reserve, which includes many villages, farms and small towns. Rold Skov resembles a patchwork quilt: it is made up of small pieces. The coniferous forest ecosystem in Rold Skov is the richest in Denmark, thanks to the high rainfall.
