Great Saint Bernard Pass

The Great Saint Bernard Pass is the 3rd highest road pass in Switzerland at 2,469 metres, connecting Italy with Switzerland. It was used by Julius Caesar and his Roman troops as well as Napoleon and his army in 1800. The pass is named after the hospice of Saint Bernard. Founded in the 11th century, it continues to provide a resting place and rescue services to travellers.
